Writing woes

In my experience, I've found that there are many writers in this world who suffer from emotional writers' block. For example, a girl I went to highschool with was a talented poet, but she could only write when she was very depressed. She wouldn't even try to write if, say, she was dating a guy who made her happy. At the time I thought that was silly; all good writers should write all the time just for practice, even if it isn't anything worth publishing. These days I'm torn - I still feel it's a good form of discipline to stay in practice, but at the same time, maybe one shouldn't write if not inspired. Sheryl Crow is a good example. All of her "feel good" songs suck, but her "I got dumped" and "no one understands me" songs are pretty fabulous. If she only put out albums when truly inspired, instead of when the record company tells her to, she might be more respected as an artist instead of being seen as a pop icon has-been. But that's just my harsh opinion.
The thing that brings this to mind is the sudden discovery that I may be one of those negative writers. Not to say that I write well when I'm sad or angry, but simply that I tend to write more. I mentioned before that I got sick of writing so much about work, but now I realize that I was venting my stress, trying to purge the negative from my system, and leaving it in the virtual universe to bore and depress others. But I digress. The point is, I've been posting rarely because I don't feel like I have anything to talk about when everything is okay in my life.
I mean, yes, of course I'm stressed - I'm always stressed about something - but my current stresses are things I'm trying to overcome, and they exhaust me to the point that I don't want to talk about them.
And the good things in my life, which are pretty numerous right now, seem too boring to write. Look at me, I'm a happy girl. See? That's no fun to read.
But, if I want to keep blogging, I have to condition myself to stay in practice. I guess that's okay since I'm not going for quality in this case. Quantity really is the key. For me, that is. Sheryl Crow is another story.
So, here goes........
I just got back from Cinncinnati with Honey Bunny. He took me to meet his biological mother. He's adopted, but he's had a lifelong relationship with his bio mom (JS) and her parents and siblings. JS actually lives in Albequerque (sp?) but was visiting her parents in Cinncinnati, so we drove up to meet them. They loved me. Grandma S. could not get enough of me. JS kept laying on the compliments. It was a blast. Grandpa S. shared some great stories. And they got me hooked on Boggle. It's a loud, boisterous family, and suddenly so much about HB makes more sense now. It was a blast.
See? Boring. There's more too.
On the drive back, HB and I got out the wedding notebook and made more plans. We've done this several times already, but this was by far the most productive endeavor. Usually we go off on tangents and forget all about the Big Day, but this time we paid attention long enough to throw together our intitial list of guests to invite. 370. And HB has assured me that we'll think of several more people we've forgotten. Can I just take a moment to scream? AAAHHHHH!!! How am I going to plan such a huge event? Luckily, we have generous friends and family who have offered a multitude of services. JS, who was a chef in another life, is insisting on catering the event. That will be an immense help - she knows far better than us how to make it fabulous, and she'll save us a ton of money in the meantime. Another friend who makes amazing wedding cakes - I'm talking professional works of art worth a fortune - has already offered the cakes as a wedding gift. Yet another video professional friend has offered her services as a wedding gift. It really is amazing how many people have come forward. Now I have to find a place to do this thing. Aak.

now see that wasn't boring at all. But I see where you are coming from. That is why I never have an answer for "what have you been up to?". My usual answer is "just the same ol' stuff". Somehow I don't think people want to hear about frustrations over deadlines and revisions, or painting living rooms and vacuuming dog hair. But the fact is that very few people have extraordinary lives. But everyone's life is different. That is why blogging has become so popular I think. People enjoy reading about other people. The things that are "everyday" or "boring" to one person are completely new and interesting to another.

So the point is... keep blogging. It's going well. And holy cow that's a lot of people, but that says something good about you two as well. And if you need any wedding favors (like coloring books ;)) or invitations - I'm your girl :P

I like heaaring about the mundane details of your life. I haven't yet had the chance to see you in your normal everyday life...so this is a wonderful peek for me.
    Thank you.
It is hard to blog..especially when you doubt what you are writing or that anyone is even interested in reading it.
So I'm gonna give your quanity over quality a try and let lose. Still am working on a draft...will see if it makes it to publish...
